Personal Seal (Inkan) Registration

Registering your seal for official purposes

Personal seal (inkan) registration is completed to certify your seal for official notorization. This registered seal is called a “jitsuin” and is required in order to buy or sell real estate, a white plate car, or other fixed assets, and other purposes. This seal is an important item that protects your personal property and rights.

  • Seal to be registered (those made from synthetic resin are not accepted)
  • Seal registration form (available at the counter)
  • Photo ID (alien registration card, driver's license, passport, etc.)
  • Service fee of 350 yen

Additional notes about personal seal registration:

  1. Seals with a diameter of less than 8millimeter or more than 25millimeter cannot be registered.
  2. Adult wards and minors under age 15 are not eligible to register a personal seal.
  3. Under certain circumstances, those without a photo ID (alien registration card, driver's license, passport, etc.) may register through other methods.
  4. In case of unavoidable circumstances, you may be able to apply through a proxy.
