Symbols and Mascots of Kamogawa City
City Flower |
Nanohana |
The nanohana (canola flower) is grown all over the city, signaling the beginnings of the spring each year. Usually blossoming in January and February, this flower is a celebrated part of the Kamogawan landscape each year. The vivid, beautiful yellow is the very image of our resort city, and its warm climate. The bundles of tiny petals express harmony and kindness. The nanohana is a very popular and familiar flower amongst the citizens of Kamogawa. |

Matsu |
Kamogawa's Tojo Beach is well-loved by the local residents for its beautiful scenery, featuring white sands and deep green matsu (pine) trees. Because of the local legends involving matsu, as well as it being a good-luck symbol representing longevity, the matsu is a popular tree in Kamogawa. The tree's strong roots and branches spreading boldly in all directions expresses Kamogawa's future development.

Tai |
The tai (sea breams), which can be found in Kamogawa's Uchiura Bay, have been revered by the locals for over 750 years as the embodiment of Nichiren Shonin. Additionally, because it is extremely unusual for the tai to be found in shallow waters, the Tai-no-Ura (Sea Bream Bay) area is designated as a National Special Natural Monument. The tai's bold appearance and powerful swimming patterns are popular with both locals and visitors. |
