Friendship City Relationships

Exchanges within Japan:

Arakawa Ward – Tokyo

As of October 2nd, 1991, the former cityship of Kamogawa and the Arakawa Ward in Tokyo entered a friendship city agreement, which has lasted through the joining of Kamogawa and the Amatsu-Kominato areas.

Since the beginning of this friendship city relationship, our two cities have enjoyed many different exchanges. Some of the notable events in our history include, “All-in Nature Experience” exchange program for elementary and junior high school students, and pariticipation in the “Kawa no Te – Arakawa Festival” and “Hula Festa” in Kamogawa, etc.

About Minobu Town

In 1971, former Amatsu-Kominato town became sister cities with the town of Minobu in Yamanashi prefecture. Minobu is said to be the place where Holy Priest Nichiren spent his later years.

The two towns share similar richness in history and customs and still continue their sister-city relationship today through student exchanges and various events.

About Saitama City

Saitama City established a friendship city relation with former Amatsukominato on December 20th, 2004. Since 1979, when Saitama City’s “Shirasagi House” (a hoTel/spa facility) opened a second facility in Amatsukominato, the two cities have kept in contact. On the 25th anniversary of the opening of “Shiragi House” in Amatsukominato, the formal friendship city relation was established.

About Kimitsu City

Located just north of Kamogawa City, Kimitsu shares a common history and culture. The close proximity of the two cities have come together in the past to work out problems concerning issues such as road openings and water resourcing.
In November of 1997, Kimitsu City signed a friendship city agreement with former Amatsukominato for the purpose of increasing resource sharing.
Kamogawa still continues to grow this relationship to further regional development.
